Our parents, Ronald J. and Bertha M. MacInnis, are the inspiration behind the Bee & Thistle Winery. Bee & Thistle Winery and Orchards, as well as Ravensfield Farm, are dedicated to their memories.
Ronald J. MacInnis
With ancestors hailing from Scotland, Ron was a proud Scotsman and continued learning the Gaelic language and Scottish heritage all his life.
Ron was born and raised in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. His parents maintained the original family home in Cape George, north of Antigonish. After Ron retired in 1991, he and Bertha moved to the Cape and built a home on land deeded to Ron from his father, Dan Hugh MacInnis.
Ron died in 2016, still giving Gaelic lessons to everyone he met.
Bertha M. (Duguay) MacInnis
Bertha was of French-Acadian heritage, born and raised in northern New Brunswick. She and Ron were married for 57 years; Bertha passed away in 2013.
An avid genealogist, Bertha spent many years researching MacInnis ancestry, documenting the family tree back to 1730. She ferreted out information on a family clansman named Angus “Ban” McInnis who resided in Moidart, an area near Arisaig, Scotland. From ”Ban” to the present, Bertha was able to document many clansmen and their families who emigrated from Scotland to North America, carrying on the Scottish tradition in Canada and the USA.
